Salary: £25,000 to £29,000 (depending on experience).

Role Details
We are currently seeking a Laboratory Management Officer to join the Laboratory Management Group within the CRUK Scotland Institute. Responsibilities of this role include effective management of laboratory equipment through upkeep, maintenance and coordination of servicing, support of laboratory processes which adhere to all institute policies and health and safety practices and control of laboratory waste including its safe handling and disposal. The individual must have a strong teamwork ethic, be able to prioritise tasks, adapt to changes in the workload demands at short notice and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of institute staff by verbal and written means. A scientific background is not essential for this position: we would actively encourage those who have experience in support-based roles, such as technicians and auxiliaries, and in fields such as manufacturing and production, to consider applying .
Essential
- School Qualifications at Standard or Higher Grade, one of which should ideally be in a science related subject
- Knowledge of laboratory services and the role they play in supporting researchers
- Awareness of good Health & Safety practices and willingness to ensure compliance of self and others with relevant systems and regulations
- Ability to plan, organise and manage personal workload, to ensure provision of laboratory equipment and services whilst maintaining safety and compliance.
- Willingness to undergo additional training key to the role.
- Ability to communicate, orally and written, to a variety of both internal and external stakeholders at different levels of seniority
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and to use creative solutions to maintain services
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances to prevent or minimise disruption to research activities and other institute operations
- Ability to work, both individually and as part of a small team, to ensure that services can be maintained
- Ability to identify improvements to processes and ways of working and participate in activities to deliver change
- IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and general ability to troubleshoot computer issues.
Desirable
- Knowledge of COSHH and biological safety regulations
- Experience or awareness of the health & safety involved working in a laboratory-based environment.
- Practical knowledge of laboratory equipment, troubleshooting and repair
- Previous experience within a laboratory environment or laboratory support role
- Experience of writing technical documentation (i.e. SOPs and Risk Assessments)
- Experience in managing service contracts and working with external contractor providers
